One Free Day Is Better Than Striving To Be Perfect!

Posted by on January 7, 2019 at 8:34 pm

Many people have great intentions and set New Year’s resolutions to get healthy and start eating better. Many will go on a diet to lose weight but we all know that most diets fail. People typically can’t stay on the diet for the long-term so as soon as they go off the diet, they gain the weight back. Statistics show that most people can stick to a diet for about a week before they fail. So instead of fighting the process, try a different approach that will enable you to stay on your nutrition plan for the long-term and experience life-changing results.

Instead of striving for a perfect diet, follow a very strict, healthy, nutrient-dense, low calorie plan 5-6 days per week and then allow for 1-2 ‘Free Days” each week.

The Free days are built into the program so you don’t have to feel guilty about it; in fact they are necessary to assure you don’t feel deprived, can indulge every once in a while and can continue on the plan forever. It’s a lot easier to say no to something today when you know you can say yes to it in a few days. Remember that stats show we can stick to a diet for about a week so don’t fight this. Understand it and set up your program to be successful for the long-term. This type of plan is feasible for most people. You are not telling yourself you are never going to eat pizza or drink wine again, but instead, just limiting how much and when you will indulge. Just make sure you do not start to make deals with yourself regarding your free days. If Saturday is your free day, make sure you stick to Saturday. Avoid indulging on say, Thursday and then promising that on Saturday, you will skip your free day. These types of compromises can lead to more regular slips.

5 Tips To Overcoming The Roadblocks

Posted by on January 26, 2018 at 10:32 pm

When people set New Years Resolutions, most have great intentions and are extremely zealous but quickly run into roadblocks and eventually fall off the wagon. Soon the motivation fades and many are doomed to set the same resolutions year after year. Every year, if you set a goal, follow a process and then quit, why do you think it would be different next time. First, don’t beat yourself up about it. Sometimes it takes many attempts before something clicks and you figure out how to live a healthy and fit lifestyle for the long-term. Just remind yourself that your health is very important and you can do this, no matter how many tries it takes!

The bottom line is that whatever forced you off track last time, will more than likely surface again. To overcome that roadblock, you need to develop a strategy for overcoming obstacles posed by work, kids, fatigue or lack of time.

4 Most Important Tips to Winning at Fitness

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

It is January 1st and human nature has many of us resolving to make some major changes in our lives. Maybe we’ll decide to start an exercise program, start eating better, quit smoking or lose a substantial amount of weight. Regardless of the goal, have you ever wondered why most people set the same New Year’s Resolutions year after year?  That’s because by March 1st, 80% of people have thrown in the towel on their original ambitions. With that kind of failure rate, I’m convinced that it’s not a problem with the person but rather the process. Most people set themselves up for failure before the clock even strikes midnight because they attempt to do too much too quickly. They don’t do any planning and they have no idea how to monitor their progress. When it comes to health and fitness, your chances for success will improve dramatically if you approach things differently. Read more on 4 Most Important Tips to Winning at Fitness…

12 Days of FITNESS

Posted by on December 4, 2017 at 6:40 pm

Workouts tend to take a back seat during the holidays. Last week, I provided you a 31 day challenge to help keep you on track during this busy season. Today, I want to provide you a simple, at-home workout using nothing but your bodyweight that you can do anywhere, anytime. It will help keep your fitness in check, the typical holiday weight gain at bay and your spirits high during a typically stressful time of year.

You can do this workout in a variety of different ways:

  1. Do each exercise listed below for 1 minute for a 12 minute workout. Do this 2-3x/week
  2. Do each exercise listed below for 1 minute whenever you can giving yourself a number of 1 minute, mini, energy boosts throughout the day. It may take you all day to get your 12 minute workout in, but you’ll feel great knowing you got it done. Sometimes during the holidays, a minute is all you can spare!
  3. Or if you’re feeling super energetic, perform this workout just like the 12 Days of Christmas. The first time around, you do a 30 second plank. The 2nd time around, you do 2 Burpees and a 30 second plank. The 3rd time around, you do 3 Forward Hops, 2 Burpees and a 30 second plank. Continue until you’ve completed all 12 days of Fitness!

WHY Crossing The FINISH LINE Changes you!

Posted by on May 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm

GF_2016_FinishlineThe number one reason people will consult with a trainer is to help them lose weight. I like to take a different approach to weight loss. Let me explain.

Many people take this approach – ‘As soon as I lose the weight or get fit, then I’ll start doing the things I’ve always wanted to do”. But I like to take the opposite approach.

First, set the goal and in the process of training for the event or activity you’ve always wanted to do, you lose the weight and get fit!

And it’s such a positive, motivating focus. For example, let’s say you set a goal of finishing a 5km fun run. Setting this kind of goal, because it has a deadline, provides a compelling reason to stick to the program and not miss workouts. In contrast, if your goal is to lose 10 pounds in 2 months, if you get off track, you can negotiate with yourself and say, “Well, I guess I can wait an additional week or two to achieve my goals.”  But if you get off track with your training program while preparing for an event, you can’t call a race organizer and ask them to postpone the event because you aren’t going to be ready. You will realize that every workout or skipped workout will either positively or negatively affect your performance and your ability to achieve your goal.

Posted by on December 28, 2015 at 3:00 am

SherriHI_2015Close out the year as you plan for the next. 2016 will be the year where you create your dream year!

As we wind down the year, it’s a great opportunity to reflect on the last 12 months.

Recap

It’s a great drill to grab a piece of paper and answer the following questions:

  1. What are the highlights of the last year?
  2. What were the struggles of the last year?
  3. What do you wish you would have done that you did not? What opportunities did you not act on that you wish you would have?
