Makeover Challenge

Posted by on June 19, 2017 at 1:00 pm

15032044_10153833048361946_606800157028111615_nEvery year, we host a Spring Makeover Challenge for our clients to help them shed that winter layer and get in great shape for summer. Each year, I like to participate in the challenge also; first, to be right there working hard side by side with our clients; and secondly, because I too enjoy a little extra warmth in the winter and like to get rid of it in the spring. So as the challenge comes to a close and we go into maintenance or to the next level, depending on our goals, I’d like to share some of the tips that were very helpful for me this year.

Working Out When You Just Don’t Have Time

Posted by on March 8, 2017 at 5:20 pm

Sherri_kids_Moulton FallsThe number one reason people say they don’t exercise is because they just don’t have the time. It’s true that more and more people are expressing that they are overwhelmed and just don’t seem to have the time to get it all done. It was reported that many of us receive on average 150 emails per day and have 3 meetings scheduled per day. Between work, family and social commitments, time is definitely tight.

Fortunately, there are a lot of really busy people that do find the time to exercise so how do they make it happen? First, they make it a priority. They realize that their life is better, they feel great and are more productive when they do exercise. Secondly, they have learned to be efficient and effective in their life to know how to fit workouts in that don’t necessarily require more time.

Here’s some tips to make it all happen when you’re too busy to figure it out:

The recent snow storm in the Northwest caused many people to experience a big setback to any health and fitness goals they may have set on January 1st! You may have decided to start training for a 5k or 10k and then found you couldn’t run with the streets covered in snow and ice. Or maybe you decided to start lifting weights and then the gym was closed or you couldn’t make it there. Or perhaps, you enrolled in the new specialty studio classes only to find classes were cancelled all week.

Maintain Your Motivation During The Holidays

Posted by on November 28, 2016 at 1:00 pm

nov2016moultonfallsThe holidays can be a stressful time trying to keep up with the endless responsibilities from getting your holiday cards out, baking, cooking for friends and family, decorating the house inside and out, shopping for the perfect gifts for your loved ones, and friends and attending every social party and get-together! Whether or not you buy into the holiday season, this time of year can definitely make it tough to stick to your workout routine. But there’s lot of things you can do to maintain your motivation during the holidays.

Do Less:

  • It can be hard to find the time to get in your full workout, but if you tell yourself you’re only going to do 20 minutes, it will be a lot easier to stick with it. So opt for a quick 15-30 minute express workout to keep your energy levels up and you won’t feel like you’ve got to start all over in the New Year.

Wake Up Call

Posted by on November 23, 2015 at 1:00 pm

CamelBack_Sherri_ShantinaHave you ever stopped to look closely at a tombstone?  Usually it will list the deceased’s name, perhaps a few words to remember them by and then it will list the date they were born and the date they died, with a dash in between.  This dash – that interval – represents their life. It’s bizarre to think your whole life could be summed up in a dash!

So today’s column includes a 5-part Soul-searching assignment for you to hopefully assure that the dash is the best darn dash you could have ever imagined! Grab a pen and a piece of paper.

Step One:

Write down all the things you’ve ever wanted to do in your life and haven’t done yet.

Step Two:

List all the things/people that mean the most to you. Read more on Wake Up Call…

Move That Body

Posted by on August 10, 2015 at 1:00 pm

Sherri Mount Hood 2015It’s hard to be great if you don’t feel great.

It’s hard to live your best life and achieve all your dreams if you’re not at your physical best.

Unfortunately, more than half of our population is overweight or obese and out of shape. The International Obesity released a report that says we expend about 500-800 calories less per day than we did a few decades ago. All the labor saving devises like remote controls, escalators, elevators, moving walkways and the internet that are supposed to be making our lives easier are in fact making us sick and slowly killing us. If you think about it, that’s equivalent to a 5-8 mile run!  That’s how much less we move our bodies today! Daily movement is absolutely critical to counteract our sedentary society. Body Image Blues

11053536_10152589328171946_3750494284662787117_nAs a professional in the fitness industry, I hear too often people who refer negatively to parts of their body….

  • “My legs are so fat!”
  • “My butt is so big!”
  • “I wish I could lose this muffin top!”

What is sad are the people who get caught in the thought process of “If I could just lose this extra 20 pounds, then I’d be happy” and sometimes, even when they do lose the weight, they’re still not satisfied. If you believe that you’ll be happy once you lose the weight, you’ll never be skinny enough to be happy.
